If Only We Could See The Air We Breathe

There is one thing in life that I am happy about - I can't actually see the air I am breathing. There are so many pollutants in the air these days, and I'm not talking about the substances that occurs naturally. If you live anywhere near a road (and who doesn't) then there are car exhaust pollutants. There are also pollutants that are thrown up by the wheels from the road. Almost every town has some sort of industry and those industries throw up pollutants of some description. Around the home, we use sprays to kill germs (the good and the bad), we use chemical based personal care products along with kitchen and laundry products.

If you have pets, then there are pet products like insect repellents, soaps and detergents. In our gardens, we use artificial fertilizers, insect and disease sprays, and perhaps even a lawn mower. That's just the chemical substances that are in the air. Add to that what mother nature provides in the form of pollens, dusts, mites, fungi, bacteria and molds, are you have an air that is thick with substances that we breathe into our lungs.

The human body is wonderful creation - it can cope with many of those substances in the air. However, over time, even our lungs start to have difficulty with them. I sometimes wonder how our children will cope in fifty or sixty years having spent all that time breathing in these substances - as I said in the title, if we only we could see the air we breathe - we'd probably hold our breathe for ever - but then, that wouldn't be long, would it. The answer is simple in the home, filter your air. Better yet, use a home dehumidifier - it removes excess moisture as well, and excess moisture provides a great breading ground for half the bugs that can hurt us. Magnifying glass anyone?
