Kids toys full of GHB - Have you purchased Bindeez
Does your child play with Bindeez.
Australian state authorities have ordered a product recall on the very popular children's toy called 'Bindeez". Over the last week 2 young children have been hospitalized after swallowing "significant amounts" of the crystal beads. It appears the body modifies the crystals into a form of GHB (Gamma hydroxy butyrate or Gamma hydroxybutyric acid - a popular party and date rape drug).
Bindeez are small toy 'magic beads' which can be arranged into patterns, necklaces, pendants amongst other things. The beads are covered in a substance which bonds the beads together when wet. The product was announced toy of the year for 2007 here in Australia.
This product recall comes on top of many others that include lead poising and potential choking hazards. If you have purchased Bindeez for your child - be wary - don't let them swallow any.

A funny note
Couldn't help but laugh reading the comment about teens using bindeez to get high! How bored are you when the regular drugs are just too mainstream for you so chew on a toy!!
Bindeez
My daughter got a large collection of these Bindeez for her birthday and another for xmas. She loves making things with them, (truth be told so do I - still a big kid at heart myself!!)They keep US amused for hours!
Anyway, how do I take away her favourite toy? Even tho she's only 7, she's got the sense not to eat the things so I'll let common sense prevail and keep enjoying the Bindeez!
A funny note
Heh, its funny, I read somewhere that now teenagers are using these toys as a drug.Crazy, isn't it? Its sad when kids these days do nothing but to try and get their hands on any kind of drug they can.
Answer
As with everything else it appears these were made in China. I notice that the US, Canada and South Africa have joined in the total recall of these toys (different name in some places, eg Bindeze in UK).
