Lanolin contains no cholesterol and is free from pesticides and other chemicals. I know, I have seen it being made myself.
Lanolin is a by product of the washing process of raw wool. The wool is washed and the oily secretion called lanolin is then scooped off the top. This is then put through about 20 different purification processes in order to get rid of any residual chemicals. It is also put through super fine filters to get rid of the grit and dirt. Only the most purified lanolin is ever used to make products that are 100% safe for babies.
The high temperatures that lanolin is subjected to kills of microbes and bacteria, as does the microfiltration it goes through.
I have experience with farming sheep, and found I was very interested in what happened to the oily stuff found on the wool, which gives the wool its smell. I was then invited to see the processes involved.
