I must admit I have spent a rather enjoyable day trolling through all the sites listed as 'father' sites on Alexa trying to dig out the top ten. Okay, I found the top ten fairly quickly, my time was spent reading those blogs - some captivated me for quite some time - there are some real gems there if you're a father like me.
Rather than just list the sites, I have also included some of my favourite posts from these blogs. This blog was listed in the top ten but I have left it off the list this time. Without further ado - here are the top ten father blogs (according to Alexa):
Metro Dad
I like the tag line. Offbeat humor in this blog makes it an interesting read. I am sure there is a viral tag post that could be started with this post that includes the 10 most over rated things in life.
Dad Talk
Tells it like it should be told. Nice mix of everything parenting ranging from the personal to the political. Timely post on stalking your kids on social media - pretty soon we will be communicating with them more on Facebook than face-to-face I think.
Suburban Daddy
Personal blog with the touch of humor that makes blogs about parents and their kids a joy to read. I can definitely relate to his post on curios kids - It's amazing how early kids learn to stack things to give themselves extra height.
Tales From The Dad Side
Another personal blog although a little more serious than Suburban Daddy - don't let that detract you. A post I can relate to at present with my little brood - five under six, is Paging Doctor Internet - I wonder how many other parents jump on the net when they become frustrated with whatever ails their little ones.
Be A Good Dad
A bit like this blog in that it only seems to have articles posted every now and then (I do try to post more often). Personal blog in the real sense - but still a good read. Do you have little ones that do the strangest things? I have one that likes to climb doorways, native style. She can climb to the top of a doorway frame in seconds. Be A Good Dad shares a similar experience with his Crash Zone post.
Laid Off Dad
Another blog with infrequent posts. He has a good personal insight into divorce in a post titled Faulty Joists - read it to get the meaning.
The Blog Fathers
I don't know if anyone writes to this blog any more. It's a pity because it is quite humorous and very well written. I wish I could relate to this post - we seem to get the exact opposite reaction when we try to give Barbie some time out.
At Home Daddy
The trial and tribulations of a stay at home dad - I think his post on what a stay at home dad does says it all. No one understands stay at home dads except other stay at home dads.
Straight Dope Dad
I like what he says on the front page - excuse the quote won't you - "I started this blog because there seemed to be plenty of places for bitter divorced dads, Christian dads, dad's with autistic children, gay dads, one armed dads, dad's with irritable bowel, dad's who screwed up their first family and then got a divorce and married a young fertile hottie to start a second family, and a heap load of generic parenting advice disguised as fatherhood tips. However, it felt like there was a gap in slice-of-life, straight up, no B.S. talk about what it's really like to raise a kid from father's point of view. And let's face, dad's just do and see things differently." Says it all I think.
Cynical Dad
As the name suggests - a very cynical dad. Mixes a little bit of everything including football tips. A fun read - I like his Tweats for the week VII.
There is the list of top father blogs according to Alexa. I have mentioned before - the one thing these blogs have in common is that they are listed in DMOZ. Do your self a favour and get listed. The other thing that interested me what that these blogs all have fairly good page rank - they must be doing something right. I am also surprised at how many of these are Typead blogs - a higher percentage than the mommy blogs.
Check them out and let me know what you think of them all. Top ten mommy blogs coming soon.
