Parents who can't be parents are becoming parents through the creation of an extremely life like new born baby. The 'doll', for want of a better name, is called Reborn Babies and are made of a soft rubber with skin and hair texture and colour that is almost identical to a real baby.
They are so real and lifelike that people are buying them and treating them like real life babies. They sew clothing, buy cribs, prams and even car seats for their Reborn Babies.
In our local area several weeks ago police broke into a car to 'rescue' a baby left in the hot sun in the car seat - much to their embarrassment it was one of the Reborn Babies - that is how life like it was.
I don't know if this is a worrying problem for the future or a blessing in disguise for those women who cannot conceive. Where society may have a problem is if women who are perfectly capable of conceiving choose not too and use one of these Reborn Babies as a form of replacement.
Where I can see a positive use for Reborn Babiesis in our schooling systems to teach girls and boys how to handle, carry, change and generally look after a baby.
Check out this video on Reborn Babies and tell me if it's a little worrying or perhaps a positive? I can see both sides of the issue.
Note: the original video that accompanied this article is no longer available - this video shows a variety of reborn babies

I am sure one of the advertisements on this page will take you to one of the sellers. If not, just type baby reborn in a Google search.

Hi Amber
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I agree with you - I think they are a great way to teach teens some of the skills required to become a parent.
Unfortunately, the baby doll doesn't quite act like a real baby. It doesn't have dirty nappies, want feeding at all hours of the day or night - or go through tummy pains and teething.
Having said that, a real baby also brings a lot of joy like their first words, first steps and the live interaction.
I hope you do get a baby doll and can learn some of the parenting skills required. Good luck.

There Adorable!!
I'm a 15 year old girl and I think there just adorable and i'm getting one it will be great practice for when i'm older and can have a real baby. I think some people go over the top but treating them like a real baby isen't that bad like it would be great for teenagers like myself who want a baby but are to young to have one. I can't wait to get one.
Baby Sculptor
Id like to present you my work as baby sculptor.
I started to work with babiessince I was a Girl and I have a even 90 years old clients that loves these realist babies.
The Doll Reborning Craze
I think these dolls are very cute! I've had three anatomically correct newborn baby girls so far, and I'm going to get another one in January. I'm one of those women who loves newborn babies but doesn't want a real one of my own. And because I'm developmentally disabled and can't get out much where I live, this is a wonderful hobby. What's wrong with changing these dolls' diapers, caring for, and nurturing them as if they were real newborn babies? Some of us just don't want to put up with the stress and demands of waking up to a crying baby needing a 2am feeding, that's all.
i love them
i have one and i do take her out side sometime's and i am getting another one my husbend and i cant have kid's and we cant aford to adopt so this is the next best thing
Weird
I think they are strange. I'm not sure why someone would treat dolls like real babies when there are plenty of real live children who need families to give them love.
Amazing!
These dolls look amazingly real. I can understand how kids would love them, but can't imagine how they could ever take the place of a real baby.

Agreed - creepy!
I want my kids playing with stuffed animals and "real" dolls - not make-believe babies!
Creepy
Oh, all I can think is that it's like holding a lifeless baby. How bizarre.
I suppose with over
I suppose with over population being our world's biggest problem, why not?
Still creepy though.
