There are not that many opportunities to monetize a parenting blog. Most opportunities fall under the realm of affiliate advertising which of course relies on visitors buying products from your affiliate links.
Income can be derived from some pay-per-click ads such as Google Adsense, however they are unreliable. One income area that I am keen to investigate, whilst not necessarily incomes, is in the form of product reviews. These are reviews of actual products, not site reviews which most pay for post reviews are, actual product reviews. This is where you are sent a product to use. Once you have used it you write an honest review. They provide real value to readers since it written from a users perspective. If you're looking for product reviews, you know what you need to do, contact me and send me samples of your product that I can actually use.
It is strange because in the past I have ignored requests for product reviews without realizing there is a benefit to all. The readers get an honest opinion of a product; the seller gets advertising promoting their products (if the review is positive) and the blogger of course receives products to use. Everyone wins.
The third and obvious form of blog income is the paid review. This doesn't sit well with Google. However, having had a PR in the past of 3 and seen it disappear to zero after doing paid reviews, I no longer care about the 'G' factor. I feel it is my blog and I will do what I want with it. There are many different paid for blogging opportunities out there. I know several bloggers that spend all day writing paid posts, review posts and of course their own 'value' posts and they can make $50+ per day - seven days per week. That is almost $20k per year, plus products if your lucky to receive them plus any PPC income. It's not enough to party on, however, for a stay at home parent it can be enough to supplement their partners income.
When you consider the 'costs' of working, clothing, travel and other costs, $20k clear per annum is pretty good going.

Tweaking
Hi Roy - I haven't changed the site but I am constantly tweaking it and learning - It has taken 12 months for me to realize with Drupal, every page can be truly unique including individual sidebars - not that I am going that far but my home page and individual pages are different. I will keep tweaking until I am really comfortable with it.
Thanks!
Thanks, Les - that is quite a compliment. And, am I going crazy or did you just change your site-design since last night (my time)? lol
Thanks
Thanks for that info Roy, I will check them out. In the mean time I have taken the liberty of adding you to my blog roll - hope you don't mind.
cheers

Monetizing Parenting Blogs
Hi Les,
Have a look at http://www.viralconversations.com/ - I know nothing about them, other than what's printed on their website.
I don't understand the stigma surrounding paid reviews. It's a staple of the magazine industry, where the "pay" is in the form of a series of ads.
good luck,
Roy
