Healthy Eating For Babies And Toddlers

by Colby Brister

Nutrition is a vital part of the development of humans, plants, and animals alike. There is a delicate balance that must be met in order for a person, especially a child, to develop properly. When children are younger, parents encourage them to eat fruits and vegetables, but it is generally up to the child what is eaten. It is up to you as a parent to ensure that your baby or toddler is getting the right nutrients each day to grow strong and healthy. There are many questions in the modern age when it comes to health, but by following some simple rules, you will ensure that your baby or toddler will grow into a self reliant adult that makes healthy eating decisions. It starts from the very first bite of food.

Beginning good eating habits begins with your pregnancy. Proper consumption of carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins leads to an uncomplicated birth, a healthy mother, and a healthy baby. You should continue your great eating trends into the breast feeding part of your infant's life. You are passing your nutrients directly to your child, so it is essential that you have plenty of nutrients. Mother to be and new mothers should eat lots of fresh, raw vegetables and fruits. You should try to eat different colors of the rainbow when it comes to produce, and limit sodium and Trans fat intake. It is best to eliminate Trans fat and caffeine altogether. As your child begins eating foods, make sure that it is organic, pure, and free of chemical add in's or fillers.

You need to understand the right kinds of foods that should be eaten by babies and toddlers. Babies do not need solid foods until they are a year old, but your doctor may suggest it sooner or later for your child. You should begin with one fruit or vegetable at a time and stay away from peanuts and strawberries, as they can cause allergies when introduced too early. Once your child begins eating regular foods, you should encourage many different fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and juices. Your child should discover the foods that he likes, and try them different ways. These steps can ensure that your child enters adolescence with healthy eating habits and tastes.

You should try to eat lots of different things with your children to provide them with an open mind about new foods, and this also gives them the most nutrients possible. If you have a picky child, try disguising the vegetables and fruits that they don't like with the foods that they love. For example, chocolate milk has long been a way for mother's to get young children to get more calcium. Try vanilla soy milk for the same effect with less processed sugar. Eating organic foods can also be great.

You can ensure that your child is developing great eating habits by setting an example and doing your research. Keep improving your own habits as well. Your entire family will be better off for it.

by James Lunden

When you and your partner get the exciting news that you're expecting a baby, there are many things to consider. This will be an emotional time, filled with exciting milestones and decisions. Getting everything ready for baby will be fun and exciting for both parents. From baby showers to birth plans, there is much to consider when it comes to getting ready for your new bundle of joy.

Picking out a name, choosing a design theme for the nursery, and buying adorable clothes for baby are just a few of the thrilling things that you'll be doing in the months leading up to baby's arrival.

For many parents, picking out the name can be one of the most fun experiences. From family names to funky and unusual names, there are so many options to consider. It is also a thrill to start preparing the nursery for baby. Choosing the perfect theme, buying all the furniture, and decorating the nursery are important parts of getting ready for baby.

Reasons For Baby Not Sleeping

by James Lunden

Having a new baby is an exciting and overwhelming experience. From sleepless nights to midnight feedings, most parents don't get much sleep. With most newborns sleeping up to 20 hours a day, parents are faced with frequent feedings and short periods of rest. This is only made worse in the case of their baby not sleeping. There are many things that can cause baby to have trouble sleeping, so it's important to know the causes so you can take care of the problem of sleeplessness.

There are certain ailments that can cause sleeplessness in babies. Ear infections are common causes of discomfort in babies and can lead to baby not sleeping. Getting to a doctor right away is important if you suspect an ear infection. There are other infections that might be a problem for a new baby.

Urinary tract infections are relatively common in babies as well. Being aware of the symptoms of problems like this can help baby sleep better and be healthier. Milk allergies are also common problems that can cause discomfort in babies and therefore sleeplessness.

Other problems that might lead to babies not sleeping could be things like acid reflux, fever, respiratory infections, and snoring or breathing problems. Being aware of the amount of sleep a baby should get at various stages of growth is a good way to be aware of abnormal sleep patterns. Making sure to resolve any sleep problems as soon as you notice them is important to baby's health and overall well being.

From ear infections to acid reflux, there are many things that can lead to baby not sleeping. Being aware of any irregularities and seeing your physician are important parts of keeping your baby happy and healthy. Most sleep disturbances are nothing to be alarmed about and will be resolved on their own, but it's a good idea to be aware of any changes in the sleeping habits of your baby.

Preparing Your Little One For Day Care

by Wriley Baker

It's always a big deal when you're sending your baby off to daycare. You find yourself leaving your baby in the care of strangers even if they are qualified strangers. It means that you could miss some precious hours of your baby's life. However, if you're a working mom, you know that returning to work can be rewarding as well as necessary to sustain your family's quality of life.

When you're properly prepared for this type of situation it can really make a difference in the quality of the experience. Once you know that you have provided everything you can to make your baby's daycare experience a happy successful one then you can rest easy with the confidence that your baby will have all that he or she needs. There are things that you can do as a parent to get your baby ready for daycare.

One of the first most important things you can do is become familiar with the policies and procedures required by the daycare. Most daycares provide a manual for new clients explaining the basics. Usually there is a section the talks about whether or not meals are provided, where to park, important security details and the daycare's hours. In addition to that information there might be information on how to label bottles and food, times when it is appropriate to keep your child at home, and the daycare's disciplinary policies. Be sure to ask any questions by your child's first day.

It is imperative that you know the phone number for your daycare's main office, the phone number for your child's room and his room assignment. Should the director of the daycare have his or her own extension or phone number it is a good idea to keep that number handy or saved with other important contact information just in case you need to discuss a problem with them that can't be worked out directly with the teacher.

The day care may also give you a list of essential items to bring with your baby on their first day. It could include items such as blankets, bibs, a pacifier, extra premised formula or breast milk, diapers and wipes. By having these items packed and ready you will have one less thing to worry about on the first day. Luckily all of the items your baby might need can be found at Babies R Us. They've got everything from diapers and bibs to toys and formula.

Make sure to finalize last minute details. Once you're a week or so away from your child's first day of daycare, review materials that have been provided to make sure that you have completed all of the necessary paperwork. The paperwork could include verification of required immunizations, a doctor's note for required medications or authorization for emergency medical transportation. It would be in your best interested to have this paperwork completed and submitted before the first day in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Science Educational Toys Popular With Kids Today

by Adriana Noton

While our children are growing up we want only the best things for them. Giving them science educational toys which help build their imaginations and strengthen their minds is the perfect way to ensure a healthy and happy child. These toys not only entertain them but teach them about the world and how things within it work and grow. They can also let them have the opportunity to grow plants as wells as hatch tine sea creatures and watch their life cycles.

If your child has interest with the dinosaurs of the prehistoric ages then why not let him see what a real one looked like skeleton wise anyway. These kits come with a complete replica that measure two and a half inches long. Your child can have fun putting this replica together. It is made of durable poly-resin parts, model stand and is painted by hand for more realism and unique character.

Let them grow unique crystals instantly by just adding water and chemicals. They will need a rock and a container for the crystals to grow within and then once water is in the container dissolve the chemicals and watch miraculously as they instantly take form in vibrant colors and shapes. Children can enjoy their crystals for months and once they break or are not looking their best make new ones. This is a kind of chemistry lesson in fun form.

A classic educational toy which also habitats living things is that of the Ant Farms of the early days and still high in popularity today as well. Only now these great farms have new technology to make them even better. Some have illuminated LED colored lights to let your ants live in color. This also helps you to see what goes on in the ant habitat at night as well.

Little girls can experiment with making their own perfect smelling perfumes with kits to do just that. These are simpler chemistry kits that teach them how to mix scents to make beautiful smelling perfumes for them to wear. Most of these kits include ten different perfume essential oils, tiny bottles to place the finished product in and a guide on important things you need to know regarding the perfume industry.

They can live in their habitat up to three months and get at adult stages about three inches in length. Each day you will notice them growing even more. Their coloring is very bright and they oftentimes can be viewed swimming on their backs leisurely. Most habitats cost you but come with about thirty Triops and everything from gravel fossil rocks and food to make their lives healthy and happy.

Remember that interesting and colorful bird who drank water from a glass when you were little? Well they are still around for the kids science of today to enjoy just as much. These birds are all hand-blown in glass and come with their very own stands and drinking glasses. Most have liquid in reds, pinks, blues and yellows in their bottoms. You just fill the glass with water dunk the birds head into glass were the beak goes in and then watch as the liquid travels into the neck and the bird bobs an d drinks on his own.

A favorite of the science educational toys and science lab equipment are the digital clocks which are ran on potato power. This is a true experiment in science any child will be astonished that actually works. Wires which are pushed deep into the potatoes of copper and then zinc cause reactions of reduction and oxidation to submit a very low surge of power which then can run a small digital clock. Try different fruit or garden vegetables for even more entertainment and see if they hold the dame or different effects as well.

Home Birthing And Midwives

by Kelly Nixon

Midwifery has been a popular job that provides health care to pregnant women makes it a rewarding experience and a widely sought career. The salaries vary depending on the experience and is very competitive. Midwives are hired by pregnant women who opt to have their baby born at home in comfort and privacy. Let's learn more about the roles of a midwife.

Midwives in general takes care of pregnant women. Midwives are there to assist pregnant women all through out the pregnancy and even after the baby is born. This means the midwife must attend to her patient when she is in labor until she delivers a child.

The prenatal period is also a part of the pregnancy that midwives help women. As the woman waits for her time to deliver a baby, one major task of a midwife is to provide the necessary assistance and care to her patient. She must make sure her patient learns how to take of herself to avoid miscarriage and other problems.

A midwife does not only take care of the pregnant woman but also to the newborn child. Before and after the birth, a midwife is expected to monitor the condition of the baby so she can give necessary medications for the pregnant mother or the baby. She should also help educate the parents about how to breast feed and baby sit and all the other stuff that parents need to know.

After the birthing process, the least task of every midwife is to give advice and information to both parents. It is mostly information regarding nutrition and how to take care of the baby that she offers to the parents in order for the newborn to be taken well cared for.

You have just read the different roles that a midwife has. A midwife not just helps during the delivery but in educating the parents and the people about what to do before and after the delivery as well. Midwives can be trusted in their expert professional skills for assisting you during labor and delivery

Great Baby Games To Enhance Development

by James Lunden

As your baby develops, it's a good idea to engage her senses with games at various stages. Keeping her involved and aware of these senses will help them develop normally. It also is a great way for you to bond with your baby by spending one on one time with her. There are so many ways to play a baby game with your new little one and you can have hours of fun with her.

From birth to 3 months, it's especially important to engage all of her senses as she gets used to this overwhelming new world. Although her sight isn't fully developed (babies are very nearsighted at first), you should incorporate all senses to the games you play with her.

For baby, something as simple as playing music can be hours of fun. Having a baby game that involves sight, sound, smell, and hearing is the best way to encourage normal development in your baby.

Between 4 and 6 months, your baby can lift her head on her own and should have normal sight. This allows for many more options in the way of game playing with baby. If you're in the kitchen, baby will love being exposed to the scent of certain spices like cinnamon to engage her sense of smell.

Putting a dusting of spice in her hand will engage her sense of touch as well. You can also begin the fun game of making baby fly by hoisting her in the air. This will make baby laugh for hours.

From 7 to 9 months, there are even more baby games you can introduce. Peek a boo is a favorite of babies and parents. This provides endless entertainment for everyone involved. Baby will also enjoy banging things on tables and other surfaces as she can easily grab things.

Lasting Fun And Learning With Wooden Educational Toys

by Adriana Noton

A child who is playing with a toy, some might argue, is a child learning. Nevertheless, many parents and experts maintain that wooden educational toys are the best toys to teach children when compared to plastic toys.

Wooden toys offer many benefits to the consumer. A quality wooden toy is durable enough to withstand decades of play. Before too long what was once a toy might become a treasured family heirloom.

Wooden toys are much more earth friendly than plastic toys. Wood is an earthly phenomenon, whereas plastic is a human endeavor. This signifies that wooden toy production has a gentler impact on the environment and produces less waste, making a healthier world for all the world's inhabitants. However, the healthy benefits of wooden toys do not end with the environment.

Many wooden toys come untreated or are finished with non-toxic paints. In comparison, recent studies indicate that some plastics can have harmful effects on human health. In addition, wood has antibacterial properties, in fact, a wooden toy in the same room as a plastic toy is said to have less germs. This is important to many parents who understand that their infants chew on toys as often as they touch them.

It is possible to further enumerate the advantages of wooden toys. Dense, grainy, or smooth, many children enjoy touching wooden toys. Some children are drawn to the natural warmth exhibited by the toys, even to the extent that they are soothed and drawn to them. This inherent quality, some might assert, heightens the educational experience of a child, because they might play with a wooden toy more frequently and for longer periods of time. However, wooden toys not only appeal to the sense of touch but also to the sense of smell. Many wooden toys are carved from aromatic woods and thus provided further sensory stimulation for children.

There are numerous wooden toys said to promote learning. Toys for learning are meant to encompass the social, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of a child. An infant might first play with a chew toy or a rattle. This experience begins to develop the their motor-skills and sensory levels.

There are toys geared towards older infants and toddlers. At this age children are beginning to understand spatial relationships between objects and to identify colors and shapes, in addition, they are still developing coordination. Wooden sorting toys or wooden stacking games are perfect to engage these skills. Moreover, children can gain awareness of balance and hand and eye coordination though play with large building blocks (later on they will graduate to basic building blocks).

For children who are a little older there is a wide variety of wooden toys to choose from. These children will enjoy learning about animals on the farm, at the zoo or in the wilderness by playing with wooden animal sets. They may even feel like they have traveled to all those places. They can also better understand everyday life within their house and community when they place with housekeeping, baking and building sets. Wooden number and letter sets develop language and counting skills. Also, these children might still want to engage with wooden toys geared towards younger children: rattles and stacking games. Just as they might want to adventure out towards more analytical toys, such as puzzles and mazes.

Many older children want the challenge of toys that engage their analytical skills. Whether they enjoy puzzles, mazes and labyrinths, model building or play sets, wooden toy makers will likely have something to engage their imaginations and challenge their critical thinking skills. Regardless of a child's age, some experts and parents agree that wooden educational toys promote a child's confidence, encourage the use of their imagination, and create fun.

Buying baby toys isn't just to provide your child with a fun activity - it's also to help them learn! Shopping at local toy stores will provide you with educational toys that are both enlightening and fun, all at the same time!

Simple Bonding Moments With Toddlers

by Riko Kawasaki

How many times have you said that your life revolves around your kids and yet, when they come and ask for attention, you put them off? In this busy world where most of the time, both parents work hard to make ends meet, children are often left alone with nannies or grandparents that, naturally, kids would always try to seek your attention.

Realistically speaking, no one is a Super Mom or a Super Dad that they can spend all their non-office hours with the kids. Understandably, some of you would want a certain level of peace and quiet after a hard day in the office. But, on the other hand, your little one had probably waited the whole day for your return just to be with you. They may scream, laugh, thrown tantrums, show you their new antics just to vie for your attention. In other words, they are asking for some bonding moments with you.

It has always been said that quality time is more important than quantity of time spent with the kids. Thus, allot a few hours each day to really get to know them better and know how they spent their time away from you. And when you spend time with them, ensure you are there both in body and mind. Give them your full attention - physically and emotionally.

Bonding time doesn't have to be an expensive activity for you and your kids. Do things together. If you don't have time to bond at night, then do it first thing in the morning. Have breakfast together and talk about the things that happened to them the day before, and plans that they might have for the day.

Give them unexpected treats. It's those little surprises that really count a lot. You don't have to wait for an occasion to give them something. Make them feel special by buying those small tokens that reminded you about them while you were away. It simply shows that you despite your hectic time at work, you are always thinking of them.

Don't forget to say the three all-important words every day. Constantly assure and re-assure them of your love so they grow confident and loving individuals with a high level of self-esteem. Knowing and feeling they are loved will help them conquer any feelings of insecurities.

Lastly, accompany your "I love yous" with hugs and kisses. Touch is a strong way of showing your love to them. Shower your kids with hugs and kisses and see how they respond back to your actions. More than anything, see how their hugs and kisses heal you of your own anxieties and discomforts - even you will feel gratifying love.

Calming A Fussy Baby

by James Lunden

Calming a fussy baby can sometimes be easier said than done. Most times fussiness is a direct result of hunger, or discomfort from excess gas that results from not burping your baby properly. There are other times when your baby seems to cry and squirm for no good reason at all.

When you're attempting to calm your fussy baby, remember that there are no cure-all tricks that work all the time, without fail. Some parents will come to find that one special trick works 95% of the time on their infant, but there will always be times when you just have to try everything until something eventually does the trick (or they get tired of being fussy).

Things that can help:

Running a vacuum cleaner, or hair dryer - Some parents have a hard time accepting this as an option, as both are extremely noisy and loud noise tends to wake babies rather than calm them. The fact is either can work marvelously and may work for you.

Having a large variety of soothers, rattles, stuffed animals, carousels, etc. - This is an obvious suggestion, but the more variety you have the better. What works one time, may not work the next. On the same note: What didn't work on your fussy baby last time they acted out, may very well calm them now. Think of it in terms of having a variety of tools to get the job done.

Sing to your baby - Start of singing quietly, in a gentle and soothing tone of voice. If that doesn't work, don't be afraid to raise your voice. While you don't want to yell at your baby, they may find a louder voice more soothing, so don't be timid about raising the volume a little.

Burp them gently - This is in case your infant still has some gas from their last feeding. Excessive gas can cause a great deal of discomfort for your baby.

Watch The Clock

If your baby continues to be fussy for several hours, with no end in sight, it would be a good idea to take them to the hospital to make sure everything is OK. While you don't want to jump to conclusions, prolonged fussy behavior may indicate the need for a thorough check up.
